STUDY TITLE: Genome-wide association analysis identifies novel blood pressure loci and offers biological insights into cardiovascular risks

SUMMARY: Identification of 32 novel genetic variants associated with high blood pressure.

DESCRIPTION:  High blood pressure, also called hypertension, contributes to many diseases, especially cardiovascular conditions such as heart attack and stroke. Genetic factors are thought to play a role in determining a person’s risk of developing this condition. This genome-wide association study examined over 140,000 individuals of European ancestry to identify genetic variants associated with hypertension. The study identified 107 variants, of which 32 were novel. Most of these genetic variants were in or near genes that are active in vascular tissues.
